The Karwa Chauth fast is observed as a pious festival for all the married Hindu women. On the auspicious day of Karwa Chauth, all the Hindu married women keep a fast for the long and prosperous life of their husbands. The fast begins before the sunrise and ends only after offering prayers and worshipping the moon at night time. The rituals and fasting process is quite challenging and to break this fast in a healthy way not only adds up to your energy levels but also provides you with plenty of nutrients so that you won’t suffer from any health complications. Here are 5 tips to break the karva Chauth fast in a healthy way.
- Keep yourself hydrated: Drink plenty of water as you end your fast since you were thirsty for the whole day. Dehydration can cause dryness of the mouth, dizziness, and tiredness. One should focus on drinks like water, milk, lemonade, or smoothies. However, do not consume very heavy or aerated drinks because you have to sleep post dinner which might slow down the digestion process.
- Consume healthy foods: Choose healthy and nutritious foods over processed and packaged junkies to end the fast healthily. You can choose vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lentils, lean proteins, healthy fats, etc. Also, it is recommended to eat protein-rich foods, including lean meat and fish. But you should avoid or cut back on the quantities of fatty food you eat so that it should not result in heartburn.
- Go for dates to minimize sweets cravings: Dates are a great way to break the fast as they can provide carbohydrates and micronutrients. Other dried fruits like apricots, figs, raisins, soaked almonds, and prunes are good fast-breaking foods as well since they provide fibre and other nutrients.
- Refrain from consuming coffee or tea: Consumption of coffee or tea immediately after a fast can result in acidity or bloating. To avoid that, you can replace the beverage with other healthier alternatives like coconut water, buttermilk, fresh vegetable/fruit juice, or cool milk. This will have a soothing and calming effect on your body and prevents indigestion too.
- Avoid fried foods: Food items that contain a high amount of oil or are fried or spicy must be avoided as they can evade the possibility of developing acidity. A healthy, light home-cooked meal must be preferred over fried foods.
Over to you:
It is important to rejuvenate the body rightly after long hours of fasting and therefore the last meal of the day should be wholesome. Always break your fast by drinking water or look for other soothing drinks like buttermilk. Avoid fried and greasy foods which can cause acidity.
