Today is the Krishna Janmashtami and it is celebrated with great ecstasy and joy all across the country. This is an occasion to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna, dissipate evil and spread the message of love and unity.
If you are planning to keep a Janmashtami fast on this auspicious day, then you should follow some health tips while fasting. For instance, you should drink lots of water and fruit juices as it will be beneficial for your health. It keeps the body hydrated and prevents you from feeling dizzy. Here, we have jotted down 7 tips for a healthy Janmashtami fast:
- Include fruits: Fruits are a rich source of nutrients and vitamins that are essential for the body. Eating fruits like watermelons or muskmelons that have high water content will keep you energetic and hydrated all day long. You can also make smoothies in milk with the fruits of your choice like mango and add crushed nuts for more health benefits. You will feel satiated and active.
- Start eating healthy the day before: You must start eating healthy foods the day before your fast day because this will help you have a healthy digestive system on the day you are fasting. Eating foods that are spicy or oily can lead to gastric or acidity problems on the day you keep Janmashtami fast and it will cause problems.
- Drink Water: You should drink lots of water on the day you fast. Water helps in boosting up metabolism and keeps you hydrated throughout the day. Also, water helps to neutralize all the acids in the stomach. Therefore, it is essential to drink at least 5-6 litres of water if you are fasting this Janmashtami. Make sure you drink enough water the whole day if you are not allowed to drink water after the sunset.
- Say no to feast: When you break your fast, do not indulge yourself in heavy meals as it will only lead to health problems like indigestion and weight gain. You should avoid heavy or oily foods when you break your Janmashtami fast and stick to eating healthy food.
- Avoid fried food: Heavy sweets and fried foods like pakoras are prepared after the Janmashtmi but avoid all these items. Deep fried foods can lead to stomach problems like acidity and can also be a reason for obesity. Instead, you should opt for food cooked by baking or roasting.
- No Caffeine: While fasting, headaches are very common. Drinking a hot beverage like tea or coffee will do more harm than good. Instead look for herbal tea or salt-less fruit juice options.
- Go on a spree of quietude: When you choose a day to fast and celebrate a divine presence, try to spend the day with some mediation. Give yourself some quiet time. This will calm your mind down, give you the strength to finish the day without having sudden hunger cravings, and most importantly it will soothe all your senses.
