Fad diets are diets which make a body lose weight in a short period of time by cutting the intake of various food groups. Fad diets lead to many problems as a sudden weight loss through various methods like cutting on food intake leads to various deficiencies in the body. Fad diets lead to many health problems like dehydration, weakness and fatigue, nausea and headaches, constipation, serious digestive problems. Fad diets have a vast list of different kinds and they cause health-related problems which are mentioned below:
Low energy: Intermittent fasting is the type of eating pattern which involves alternate cycles of fasting and eating. In intermittent fasting, there are times which are decided on a prior basis and it should be followed strictly. During the fasting hours, you are not allowed to eat anything but can have, water, tea, coffee or any other kind of non-alcoholic beverages. Due to the decided time and fasting at other intervals, people tend to lose energy as there are only liquids going inside the body most of the time. Low energy is because of the change in the eating pattern from eating all day to eating once or twice a day.
Constipation: One major problem behind following a fad diets is, constipation. As in some of the diets, fruits and vegetables are cut down, because of which our body lacks dietary fibre, and that leads to constipation.
Brain fog: When a person is following a ketogenic diet, he/she is most likely to have brain fog due to the lack of carbohydrates. Keto diet cuts out most of the carbohydrates which leads to low glucose which then causes brain fog. If you are into forgetting things easily or remembering something, you are suffering from brain fog.
High cholesterol: Keto diets come with many problems and one of them is fluctuations in the cholesterol level. When the body doesn’t get enough carbohydrates, the liver produces fewer triglycerides which may be the reason behind raising cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels leads to cardiovascular diseases like high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Bouncing back of weight: People tend to follow a low-calorie diet which is also known as crash diet in which there is low energy food consumption. Crash diet leads to weight loss in no time but it also has a drawback as weight loss during a crash diet is likely from lean muscle and water, not body fat, it’s very common to gain weight after a crash diet.
