How to Brace Your Health for Monsoons

Changing seasons bring different things with them. Every season has something to offer. While the summer season brings us mangoes and lychees, the winter season brings snow and warm puffy sweaters along with it. After the long humid months of summer, the monsoon season is finally here. The unexpected downpour accompanied by pleasant weather filled with a light breeze is enjoyed by all. Sitting in our balconies, munching on hot pakoras and sipping tea is the favorite memory of the monsoon season. India experiences the most dramatic monsoons. The first seasonal shower is usually witnessed in Kerala.
With all the fun and enjoyable activities of monsoons, this season can also trigger several diseases, allergies, and infections. The spread of diseases such as dengue, malaria, flu, typhoid, viral fever, and pneumonia is significantly higher during this time. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to your health during the few months of the rainy season.
Here are some tips that can help you to focus on your health during the monsoon season:
- For everyone who loves street food, the rainy season is not an ideal time to eat street food. Refrain from eating food off the streets as it can easily catch contaminants during monsoons. This increased your chances of falling sick and catching an infection.
- Make sure you apply a mosquito repellent when you are stepping outside the house. Mosquitos breed in still water so clean the drains and coolers inside your house. There is a high risk of developing malaria during the rainy season.
- If you are drenched in the rain, take a bath as soon as you reach home. Add 2-3 cups of Dettol to a bucket full of warm water and clean yourself with it. Wash your clothes thoroughly and let them dry in the sun. This reduces the chance of catching any infection.
- Wash your hands regularly. During monsoons, your body comes in contact with different types of bacteria and viruses. They can enter and harm your body. Cleaning your hands with hot water and soap.
- Keep your body warm and drink herbal tea. One of the most common diseases that occurs during this season is cough and cold. Drink herbal tea containing ginger, pepper, and basil. This has curative properties that can treat various ailments.
