Whenever it comes to choosing bread many people always abide by brown bread. But there is another option available in the market which is known as multigrain bread. Many health enthusiasts suggest choosing multigrain bread as it offers a wide nutritional profile. But if you still confused about what to pick, here is a health battle that can solve all your queries.

Read on to know more!

  • Multigrain Bread

As the name suggests, multigrain bread is a mix of multiple ingredients like, buckwheat, millet, quinoa, brown rice and wheat- which makes it high in fibre. In fact, it has fibre content up to four times greater than white or brown bread, which keeps you feel fuller for a longer period of time. Also, multigrain bread is high in complex carbohydrates, meaning they raise the blood sugar levels gradually. But, when you buy multigrain bread, look out for 100% whole grains, because if it has ‘bleached’, ‘enriched’ or ‘refined’ grains, it probably is washed off from its nutritive value.

  • Brown Bread

Brown bread is said to have more fibre than white bread, but it might not be 100% true, blame it on the smart industry packaging. Multigrain bread is a better choice when compared to brown bread as brown bread can also have a small proportion of refined flour or maida in it. Whereas, multigrain bread is a mix of flours and can offer a multitude of nutrients. Also, multigrain bread contains nutrient dense seeds like flax seeds, sunflower seeds or sesame seeds, which definitely enhance its nutritional value. Make sure to check the label before buying multigrain bread and pick the bread which is filled with flours like wheat, oats, and barley. Consuming bread daily or making it your daily diet staple is not a good option and therefore choosing homemade multigrain chapatis are advisable.

Footnote

Having bread regularly on your breakfast, lunch or dinner is not a viable option. Be it a whole multi-grain bread, whole wheat bread, brown bread or white bread, they all have yeast included, which dehydrates the body. So, choose multigrain chapatis instead. Multigrain chapatis are rich in fibre, protein and are easier to digest. Read and understand the label before buying is extremely important for better health
