Masala Foxnuts

Masala Foxnuts, or Masala Makhana, are a delightful snack that combines the light and crunchy texture of roasted foxnuts with a medley of spices. With a hint of tanginess from lemon juice and the fresh touch of coriander, these spiced foxnuts make for a perfect, flavorful, and guilt-free snack option.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 30 grams foxnuts (makhana)
  • 1/2 teaspoon olive oil 
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon chaat masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander

Procedure:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them sizzle for a few seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the fox nuts to the pan and roast them for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are crispy and golden brown.
  4. Reduce the heat to low.
  5. Sprinkle the turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and chaat masala over the roasted foxnuts. Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
  6. Add salt to taste and toss the fox nuts again.
  7. Optionally, squeeze lemon juice over the fox nuts for added flavor and toss to mix.
  8. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander if desired.
  9. Let the masala foxnuts cool completely before serving.
  10. Store in an airtight container to keep them crispy.
