At this time, every year many people look down towards the past year and make resolutions or goals to make the new year even better. To bring big changes in your habits, pave your way to small changes first this new year. The new year brings enthusiasm and joy of sticking to new habits and erasing all the bad habits. Here are a few healthy habits that you must inculcate in your life, this new year:
- Drinking enough water:
- Exercise regularly:
- Practice healthy eating:
- Eat healthily- Eat more fruits and vegetables. Avoid eating sugary drinks or snacks. Replace fried items with baked or grilled food items. You must also avoid refined oil or refines flour, have vegetable oil and whole wheat flour instead. Also, avoid artificial sweeteners.
- Don’t forget portion control- Try and eat food in comparatively smaller plates. This ensures that you do not overeat. Increase the portion size of fruits and vegetables and smaller portions of high-calorie food containing large amounts of sugar and fat.
- Chew your food- Chewing a mouthful 20=20 times gets in the most digestible form. It reduces calorie intake by about 10% because it takes your stomach about 20 minutes to tell the brain that it is full.
- Do not neglect dental hygiene:
- Take a good night sleep:
You should drink at least 2-3 glasses of water as soon as you wake up. You can add one squeeze of lemon and honey to it. Have preferably warm water when you first wake up. This will detoxify the entire system and freshen you up. Before getting your hands into your dinner, lunch, brunch, drink one-two glasses of water. This decreases cravings and fills up your stomach quickly. Studies show that drinking before meals reduces appetite and calorie intake. It also leads to weight loss and maintenance. Drinking water keeps you hydrated throughout the day and helps you clear all your blemishes and gives you radiant skin.
Regular exercise or any physical activity is probably the most important thing if you come to healthy habits. It helps you to control weight, maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints and reduces the risk of chronic diseases like high blood pressure or high blood sugar levels. Something as simple as 30 minutes of brisk walking can work wonders for your health. Add more physical activities to your routine. Take the staircase instead of the lifts. Use a cycle instead of a cab/car. 10 minutes of a walk after meals. These small habits contribute a lot to your lifestyle.
This aspect of healthy living has a few sub-contents
Little did you know that keeping good dental care could add over 6 years to your life. There is a bacterium that is produced by dental plaque which may enter in your blood vessels and cause inflammation that blocks blood vessels. So brush your teeth twice a day, two avoid this kind of issue. A good bedtime flossing adds on to your life years.
Sleep is a crucial thing for your wellbeing. Being sleep deprived may lead to problems like drowsiness, fatigue, forgetfulness and lack of focus. So to avoid these problems develop a habit of getting a 7-9 hours’ sleep. If you are having trouble sleeping, try being free of laptop, TV, mobile phones. Use aromatherapy to create a good sleep environment.
Over to you:
With the new year coming up, try and inculcate these few healthy habits to lead a healthy lifestyle. If you do not feel motivated to do these things, jot down the pros and cons of not doing it. Hopefully, you will start feeling motivated after it. Things like schedule building and to-do-list making may help you in decision making. So, get off the couch and start moving!
