Prep up for Karva Chauth: Healthy Food items to include in the Sargi Thali

There are a many fasts according to Hindu customs that women keep to sustain the long lives of their loved ones. Karva Chauth is one such fast predominantly celebrated by North Indians. It is observed when married women keep a nirjala vrat that means fast without the consumption of food and water till the time they worship moon for the long life of their husband.
Many rituals are followed in this fast specially the Sargi ritual, do you know what Sargi is? Sargi is a symbol of love and blessings that a mother-in-law sends to her daughter-in-law, usually a day before Karva Chauth. It is the pre-dawn meal that a married woman consumes before starting her Karva Chauth vrat. A thali full of energising foods is given with love that it will bless her and sustain her through the ordeal of the vrat. If you are keeping the Karva Chauth vrat this year or sending a sargi to your daughter-in-law, make sure these healthy food items are included in your sargi thali to make it complete and healthy at the same time:
- Fresh fruits: Fresh fruits are naturally high in water content so, it is best suited in the sargi thali as women have to do nirjala vrat which can cause dehydration in the body. To keep the person well-hydrated one should include fresh and juicy fruits like oranges, lime, and pomegranate which are especially high in water content and maintain the ph levels of the body.
- Dry Fruits: Raisins, almonds, cashews, and pistachios are essential considering they come packed with numerous nutrients that will give you energy and keep you active throughout the day.
- Coconut: Coconut is another healthy food item you can definitely include in your sargi thali since it is packed with nutrients, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and keeps you hydrated.
- Parantha roll with curd: Generally, light home-cooked foods are prepared that are nutritious and filling at the same time. You can have multigrain parantha with a stuffing of your choice like potato or paneer which will provide you high satiety and curd will help to keep your gut healthy. Heavy oily foods will only make you sluggish and lethargic throughout the day, so it is best avoided.
- Sewaiyaan: Sewaiyaan is a popular part of sargi because it keeps you full and energetic throughout the day. You can make a salted version of sewaiyaan with lots of healthy vegetables like carrot, peas, tomato to make it nutritious.
- Dates: Craving for those sweets this sargi? Dates are a good option to curb those sweets cravings as they are excellent natural sweeteners and also have high fibre content.
