Rely on Packaged Sports Drinks during Summer? Here’s Why you Should Rethink it.

The fancy advertisements, fascinating packaging, yummy taste and poppy colours of sports drinks look enticing to almost everyone. But the additional sugars and fake colours that make them looks attractive can do a lot of harm to the overall health and well-being. From a sportsperson to gym lovers to Instagram influencers, packaged sports drinks have turned out to be a beverage of choice for everyone. Sports drinks are filled with harmful additives and lots of sugars that can harm our body in plentiful ways.

Here are some reasons why you should definitely rethink while buying sports drinks:

  • Hydration and energy: Almost all the packaged sports drinks swear to do wonders to your energy and hydration levels, but the truth is quite different. Such drinks are high in sugar that can only feel appetising to your buds and it even increases the risk of various diseases as well. These drinks won’t keep you hydrated for a long time and only fill you up with negative calories. After an intense workout, such drinks can replenish electrolytes but never rely a lot on them. Always choose normal water or homemade smoothies or coconut water to give a quick boost to your energy levels and to quench your thirst. 

 

  • Contain plenty of caffeine: Packaged sports drinks are high in caffeine content and its excess consumption can do more harm than any good to the health. Various researches said that if you are too much into sports activities or high-intensity workouts, then minimal consumption of such sports drinks is fine. Rely on normal water or home-made drinks as packaged drinks are filled with high quantities of caffeine and regular consumption can be detrimental to overall health and well-being. It can lead to head pain, tiredness, high blood pressure levels and increased heart rate.

 

  • Excess sugar: Well, yes, that’s true that sports drinks contain plenty of sugar which can lead to various health ailments while making you gain weight. The acids it contains are not good for gut health and regular consumption can even deteriorate dental hygiene. Such drinks are high in carbohydrates which are linked with obesity and various health hazards like diabetes, stroke and heart attacks.

 

  • Additives: Sports drinks contain plenty of additives to preserve flavour and to improve taste that can harm your overall health and well-being like nothing else. Various studies said that a chemical is added to sports drinks name as PEG (polyethylene glycol) that can block the blood vessels and can even lead to various problems in the body.

Though the packaged sports drinks can hydrate you and revive your energy levels for some time, it can also impact your body while taking you closer to various health ailments.  So, always see for healthier options to charge up your energy levels and to make yourself all hale and hearty. In addition to normal water, you can add coconut water, smoothies and home-made buttermilk to get all the nutrients and to instantly hydrate yourself.
