Reproductive Health Awareness Day

Held annually on 12th February, Reproductive Health Awareness Day is dedicated to raising the awareness surrounding sexual health. People need to be educated to reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections as being aware of what all health infections can happen if done without measures. We all know sexually transmitted diseases have been one of the major public health concerns. Undoubtedly many people are still shy to talk about anything surrounding sex or sexual health but it is one of the most important topics that need awareness and attention of people, so they are educated enough to know about the symptoms and consequences. People need to know about the diseases that are fatal like HIV/AIDS, unintended pregnancy, and unintended abortions. Intercourse comes with pleasure as well as many consequences if proper measures are not taken care of.

These points should be kept in mind to keep the reproductive process a healthier one:

Use protection: The first and the foremost step to be followed during intercourse is using protection before sex. Teens have been involving themselves in the acts of sex but they don’t know about the measures that should be taken. People need to know some of the major points like, not engaging with multiple partners sexually, communicate and then decide if you are ready to have sex or not, both the partners should agree to the act. To prevent unwanted pregnancy as well to prevent Sexually Transmitted Infections (STDs), condom is the best preventive measure available around as it acts as a barrier between the penis and the vagina.

Know your partner: Sexual act needs to be consensual and before engaging into one, you should be very much familiar with your partners and there should be trust between you two. Engaging in intercourse needs to be safe and protected. Knowing if your partner has or had a history of STD.

Clean your genitals: Genitals should be properly cleaned every day to avoid catching. Men and women both need to take care of the genital hygiene by cleaning themselves by washing daily and using unscented soaps. Cleaner the genitals, better the sex and with least risk of diseases or infections being transmitted, given the use of protection.

Avoid having sex when high on drugs/alcohol: People need to learn the fact that mistakes tend to happen when alcohol or drugs hit. Most of the common reason behind unwanted pregnancies is having sex in a drunken state.

  • A small guide on how to prevent STDs:
  • – Avoid sharing towels or underclothing
  • – Wash genitals before and after intercourse
  • – Use protection
  • – Get tested for HIV

Over to you

Having sex is not a sin but doing it the right way and on the right time will be better for you and your future. The main motive behind reproductive health awareness day is for people to be aware of the STDs and how engaging into intercourse needs to be done with proper consent and measures. Be safe!
