Gut health is important in the overall health of an individual. It is essential and repeatedly overlooked. It is the starting point for achieving optimal health and preventing disease.
Gut plays a huge role and is often referred to as “the missing link” and its health is important for everyone, not just those with digestive issues. It always starts with the gut whether the goal is to lose weight, increase the energy, better the immune health, rid oneself of sugar cravings or resolve digestive issues.
Nutrition plays an important role in its treatment for many gut issues, including leaky gut syndrome. Consuming foods rich in probiotics and other healing foods for leaky gut that contain gut-repairing micronutrients to support gut health and the gut lining can be one of the best ways to heal a leaky gut.
Hence, it is important to be diligent and consistent about the following tips (foods) in order for the gut to heal from the inside out.
Bone Broth: Bone broth is at the top of the list as one of the most important foods to repair the gut. Bone broth from chicken bones is easy to make. Bone broth contains collagen and gelatin, two superstars for supporting a healthy mucosal lining, proper digestion, and intestinal functioning. Bone broth also contains amino acids like glycine and glutamine that aid digestion and promote gut health.
Cooked fruits and veggies: Fruits and veggies are full of fibre and other nutrients proven to combat inflammation. But the tough fibre in raw produce can be harsh on a weakened digestive system, though cooking and streaming fruits and veggies can soften fibrous skins and be gentler on the intestinal tract.
Healthy Fats: The moderation and inclusion of healthy fats in the diet, including avocados, egg yolks, and olive oil, can protect against inflammation of the gastrointestinal lining. And unlike pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids, omega-3s are touted to combat inflammation and are sourced from fatty fish, walnuts, and olive oil.
Probiotics: In addition to actually killing the bad bacteria, it is important to repopulate the good bacteria with probiotics. Add in probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir and sauerkraut. Kombucha is great too. Fermented foods will be the friend in this leaky gut diet!
Coconut: Coconut helps to pack an added punch during this leaky gut diet. The lauric acid present in coconut, gets converted to monolaurin by the body, which it then uses to fight pathogens. Coconuts are natural antimicrobial powerhouses. Cook food in coconut oil, put coconut milk in the coffee and add a spoonful of coconut oil to the tea.
Avoid Dairy Products: Individuals with Celiac disease, or those with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance are urged to eliminate milk, yogurt, cheese, and other dairy products to lessen inflammatory effects of the intestine.

Gut health is the cornerstone for optimal health and the avenue through which nutrients are incorporated into the body. Hence, leaky Gut Syndrome, as well as other digestive conditions, can go easily undiagnosed, but not so easily ignored. So, the right food for leaky gut can make a difference.
