EID-AL-FITR is a festival that is celebrated to mark the ending of Ramadan, the fasting month. It is greatly observed by Muslims. It is celebrated by distributing gifts, cooking delicacies, wearing new clothes, and greeting each other. Eid-Al-Fitr has its special Islamic prayer which is performed with a group of people and may include raising of hands to the ears(Takbirs).
It is a festival that is celebrated all around the world and being a “feast of breaking fast”, food plays an important role in the celebration. Different dishes are prepared in different parts of the world but enjoyed by everybody!
Here Are Some Of The Traditional Dishes Relished Around The World:
- Tajine: It is a North-African, savory dish eaten especially in Morocco and Algeria. It got its name from the pot it is cooked in. The pot is ideal for a moist and hot environment for the dish. It is made with slow-cooked stew, any sort of meat and vegetable or fruits like plum.
- Baklavas: This pastry-like dessert originated in Ottoman, Turkey but is often associated with the Greek cuisines in the U.S. Baklava is a pastry that is sweet, crispy, crunchy and of course filled with sweetness. It is made with a thin layer of pastry lead with nuts, butter, syrup, or honey.
- Bolani: Often called pastry pockets, originated in Afghanistan, makes for an amazing savory dish to include in our celebratory meal. These are thin sheets of dough that are filled with vegetables or sometimes even meat, rolled out into a ball or any desired shape. It is deeply fried and served with yoga dips.
- Sheer Khurma: It is a rich and creamy pudding dessert from South Asia. It is prepared with extra fine noodles made from semolina called sevayan, cardamom, milk, sugar, saffron, rose water, and dried fruits and nuts. It is a must-have delicacy enjoyed all over Asia and the world.
- Manti: These are stuffed dumplings that come from Russian cuisine. It is a savory delicacy enjoyed during the festival of Eid-Al-Fitr. The stuffing can be of lamb or beef but every region has its own recipe. Every country can have its own taste and own way of making Manti.
