Although we have seen a lot of progress in terms of gender equality over the years, yet many women still die in pregnancy or childbirth to this date. Women are major contributors to the healthcare department yet there are fewer leadership roles, and the wage gap is significantly present, mental health problems like depression.
Making your health a priority is not just for yourself but for others around you. It is a great way of modeling self-care for your family, ensuring physical and mental well-being.
Here are some steps to help you prioritize your health-
- Getting physically active
At this point it is a repeated statement to get regular activity in your schedule, women who work out more routinely have healthier blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and the chances of developing serious chronic illnesses also decrease like heart disease, dementia, or diabetes. Even during the stage of menopause, staying active can alleviate symptoms like night sweats, moodiness, or hot flashes.
Get the simple things done like taking the stairs, getting a little done every day, walk at every opportunity you get, if you are already active you can always look for ways to improve yourself, get more well-rounded fitness programs, and place more importance on endurance or strength which helps with the body’s flexibility, balance, and mobility.
All of this can help boost your activity level, and help get you motivated.
- Sleep should be prioritized
Some people can have very challenging routines and don’t get enough time to squeeze in good sleep, but there are many health benefits attached to good sleep, you need to get a good sleep for a balanced life with more productivity, and preserving a higher level of reasoning, and help to keep your emotions steady, and protect you overall for a longer time.
It is restorative for the mind and body, and for those who are not able to get a good sleep can face issues like weight control issues or memory problems
- Improving your diet
You need to remove a misconception that healthy food is bland, it means fresher and fun flavors, and ingredients you haven’t tried before, but special attention needs to be paid to the sugar and carbohydrate levels, especially to labels like low-fat. Consider healthier options like quinoa, or cauliflower rice rather than white rice or traditional pasta, use more herbs to expand the flavors. Consume more fiber, especially plant-based foods like vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
