Basil Tomato Napolitana

Basil Tomato Napolitana is a classic Italian sauce that highlights the simplicity of fresh tomatoes, garlic, and basil. This versatile sauce can be served with pasta, spread over a pizza base, or used as a dipping sauce.
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 200 grams chopped tomatoes,
- 50 grams finely chopped onion
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 10 grams chopped basil leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
Procedure:
- In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic and sauté until softened and fragrant.
- Add chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they break down and release their juices. Add chili flakes if you like a hint of spice.
- Add salt, black pepper, and oregano. Stir well, reduce the heat to low, and let the sauce simmer for another 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Turn off the heat and stir in fresh basil leaves. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve the sauce over pasta, as a pizza base, or with roasted vegetables.
