For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 60 grams rice (soaked)
- 30 grams urad dal (soaked)
- 30 grams grated bottle gourd
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped ginger
- Water, as needed for batter consistency
- 1 tablespoon oil
Procedure:
- In separate bowls, soak the rice and urad dal in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked rice and dal. In a blender, combine the rice, urad dal, grated bottle gourd, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt. Add a little water and blend until you achieve a smooth batter. The consistency should be similar to that of pancake batter.
- If you have time, let the batter sit at room temperature for 6-8 hours or overnight to ferment slightly. This will enhance the flavor and texture of the dosas.
- Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Grease it lightly with oil. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot pan and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin dosa. Drizzle a little oil around the edges.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the bottom turns golden brown and the edges begin to lift. Flip and cook for another minute. Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more oil as needed.
- Serve the bottle gourd dosa hot with coconut chutney, sambar, or any dip of your choice.
