Cabbage Spring Rolls

These Air-Fried Cabbage Spring Rolls are a healthy and guilt-free version of the classic deep-fried spring rolls. Stuffed with a delicious blend of cabbage, carrots, and bell peppers, and air-fried to a crisp, they make for a perfect appetizer or snack. Light on oil but big on flavor, these rolls offer a delightful crunch without the extra calories.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 100 grams finely shredded cabbage
  • 50 grams julienned carrots
  • 30 grams thinly sliced bell pepper
  • 30 grams chopped spring onions
  • 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 20 grams rice paper wrappers
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Procedure:

  • Heat sesame oil in a pan and sauté ginger-garlic paste until fragrant. Add shredded cabbage, carrots, bell pepper, and spring onions. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes until vegetables soften slightly. Add soy sauce, black pepper, and salt. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes. Let it cool.
  • Soak rice paper wrappers in water for a few seconds until pliable. Place a portion of the vegetable mixture in the center of each wrapper and roll it tightly, tucking in the sides to seal.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Lightly brush the spring rolls with olive oil and place them in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve the crispy spring rolls hot with a side of sweet chili sauce.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Cabbage is packed with antioxidants like vitamin C and polyphenols that support immune function and reduce inflammation. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which is essential for eye health and skin rejuvenation, while bell peppers provide a dose of vitamin A and fiber.
  • The air-frying technique keeps the dish low in fat compared to deep-fried alternatives, while still delivering the satisfying crunch. The inclusion of sesame oil adds healthy fats and a touch of nutty flavor.
  • The use of rice paper ensures the recipe is gluten-free or fiber-rich, depending on your choice. This dish provides a balance of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants with a much lower fat content than traditional spring rolls.
