Chura Mattar is a flavorful and comforting dish featuring soft poha (flattened rice) cooked with green peas, aromatic spices, and fresh coriander. It’s a quick and satisfying meal, ideal for breakfast or a light lunch or snack, offering a delightful combination of textures and tastes.
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 60 grams poha
- 50 grams green peas
- 150 grams finely chopped onions
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
- 2 teaspoons oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Lemon wedge for serving
Procedure:
- Rinse the poha in a strainer under running water for a few seconds until they are soft but not mushy. Set aside to drain completely.
- Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle. Then, add the finely chopped onions and green chili. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add turmeric powder, garam masala, and red chili powder. Mix well and sauté for a few seconds until the spices are fragrant.
- Add the green peas to the pan. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the peas are tender. If using frozen peas, this will take less time.
- Once the peas are cooked, add the rinsed and drained poha to the pan. Mix gently to combine everything without breaking the poha.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the poha is heated through and all the flavors are well combined. Adjust salt to taste.
- Turn off the heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with a lemon wedge on the side.
