Ragi Laddoo

Ragi Laddoo is a nutritious and traditional Indian sweet made with finger millet flour, known as ragi, which is rich in calcium and iron. The earthy flavor of ragi is beautifully complemented by the sweetness of mashed banana, the nutty taste of roasted peanuts, and the aromatic cardamom. Desiccated coconut adds a delightful texture, making these laddoos a perfect snack or dessert. They are easy to prepare and can be enjoyed by all age groups, offering a wholesome treat that’s both satisfying and healthy.
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 60 grams ragi flour
- 20 grams desiccated coconut
- 30 grams roasted peanuts
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 15 grams chopped dried fruits
- 1-2 tablespoons of mashed ripe banana
Procedure:
- Heat a pan on low flame and dry roast the ragi flour until it turns aromatic and slightly changes color. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Stir continuously to avoid burning. Once roasted, set it aside to cool.
- In the same pan, lightly roast the desiccated coconut for 2-3 minutes until it turns golden. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the roasted ragi flour, desiccated coconut, ground peanuts, and cardamom powder.
- In the same pan, melt the ghee. Add the mashed banana and sauté for 2-3 minutes until it becomes slightly thick.
- Add the dry ingredients into the pan with the banana and mix well. You should have a dough-like consistency.
If the mixture is too dry, you can add a bit more ghee
Let it cool slightly, then take small portions and roll them into laddoos. - Press a few chopped dried fruits into each laddoo, giving them a delightful texture and extra sweetness. Let the laddoos cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
