Papaya Halwa is a unique and delicious dessert made with ripe papaya, jaggery, and ghee. This soft and rich halwa has a naturally sweet flavor from the ripe fruit, enhanced by the earthy taste of jaggery and the warmth of cardamom. The roasted nuts and raisins add a delightful crunch and chewy texture to this tropical-inspired treat.
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 200 grams ripe papaya, peeled and mashed
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1 tablespoon grated jaggery
- 2 teaspoons chopped nuts (e.g., cashews and almonds)
- 1 teaspoons raisins
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- A pinch of salt
Procedure:
- Heat half of the ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add the mashed papaya and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the raw smell fades and it softens further.
- Add the grated jaggery to the softened papaya and stir well. Cook the mixture for another 5 minutes on low heat until the jaggery melts completely and blends with the papaya.
- In a small separate pan, heat the remaining ghee and lightly roast the chopped nuts and raisins. Once golden, add them to the papaya mixture.
- Stir in the cardamom powder and a pinch of salt. Continue cooking the halwa on low heat until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan, approximately 10-15 minutes.
- Once the halwa reaches the desired consistency, remove from heat. Serve warm, garnished with more nuts if desired.
