Saucy Chicken Balls

Saucy Chicken Balls are flavorful, juicy chicken meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce. This dish combines tender, spiced chicken balls with a tangy and slightly sweet tomato sauce, creating a perfect balance of savory and spicy flavors.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • For the Chicken Balls:
    • 200 grams ground chicken
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped (about 50 grams)
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
    • 1/2 tsp paprika or chili powder
    • 1/4 tsp black pepper
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 egg
    • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
    • 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

    For the Sauce:

    • 200 grams tomato puree or crushed tomatoes
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 tsp honey or sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
    • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Procedure:

  1. Make the Chicken Balls: In a bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix everything well until combined. Shape the mixture into small balls, about the size of a tablespoon.
  2. Cook the Chicken Balls: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken balls and cook for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In the same skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add the tomato puree, oregano, chili flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add honey or sugar to balance the acidity if desired.
  4. Combine: Add the cooked chicken balls to the sauce and gently toss them in the sauce to coat. Let them simmer in the sauce for another 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  5. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve warm. These chicken balls can be served over rice, pasta, or as an appetizer with a side of bread.
