Spicy Guava Jam
By Nmami Agarwal 03-Mar 2023 Reading Time: 3 Mins
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 250 grams chopped ripe guavas
- 2 – 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 50 ml water
Procedure:
- In a saucepan, combine the chopped guavas and water. Cook over medium heat until the guavas soften and start breaking down (about 10-15 minutes).
- Once softened, use a masher or fork to mash the guavas to your desired consistency. For a smoother jam, you can strain it through a sieve to remove seeds and pulp, but this is optional.
- Return the mashed guava to the saucepan. Add sugar, red chili powder, black salt, ginger powder, and cardamom powder. Stir well and let it simmer on low heat for about 20-25 minutes until the mixture thickens, stirring occasionally.
- Once the jam reaches your desired consistency, remove it from heat and stir in the lemon juice. This helps to preserve the jam and adds a tangy flavor.
- Allow the jam to cool completely before transferring it to a clean, sterilized jar. Store in the refrigerator and use within 2-3 weeks.
