For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 15 grams dried hibiscus flowers
- 20 grams amla (Indian gooseberry), chopped or 50 ml amla juice
- 500 ml water
- 1 tablespoon honey
- A pinch of salt
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
- Lemon slices for garnish
Procedure:
- In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil. Add the dried hibiscus flowers and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow it to steep for another 10 minutes.
- Once the hibiscus tea has steeped and cooled slightly, strain it into a jug, discarding the hibiscus flowers.
- If using chopped amla, blend it with a little water to make a smooth paste. Add this paste to the hibiscus tea. If using amla juice, simply add it directly to the tea.
- Add honey, and a pinch of salt. Stir well until fully dissolved. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
- Chill the drink in the refrigerator for a few hours or serve immediately over ice. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and lemon slices, if desired.
